Modular door
The subject of the "modular door” arose at ThyssenKrupp Drauz Nothelfer from an R & D project whose aim was to find an alternative to the gluing of door-side seals. The background to this requirement was the expected gluing problem involved in the future use of "dirt-repellent” paints for the car manufacture. On this basis arose the idea of separating the inner door panel with the mounted seal and forming on a detachable profile. The concept thus consists of an inner and outer module which are detachable.

Advantages of the modular door over the conventional door concept:
- weight optimisation (lightweight construction)
- optimised stiffness
- optimised for assembly
- ideal for the use of "advanced steels”
- suitable for the use of aluminium
- demonstrates great design flexibility
- demonstrates great type flexibility
- enables cost-savings
- modules or complete door purchasable
- enables simplified manufacture of the inner door panel
The sum of the above advantages of the modular door concept clearly results in a customer benefit which is particularly expressed in a cost reduction compared to conventional door manufacture.
